How Commentary works

Commentary slows down over a whole paragraph, taking it verse by verse. Each verse gets its background in history and culture, the Hebrew or Greek words that carry its weight, and the main ways churches have read it. That makes it a good companion when you are preparing a Bible-study lesson or reading through a book on your own.

Example verses

Short paragraphs with plenty to explain make good first studies. For example:

  • Peace instead of anxiety · Philippians 4:6-7

6Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

  • New mercies every morning · Lamentations 3:22-23

22It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

  • Under His shadow · Psalms 91:1-2

1He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

  • Eternal weight of glory · 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

17For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 18While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

About Commentary

Choose a passage and Lampfold walks through it verse by verse, explaining historical and cultural background, notable Greek and Hebrew words, and how different traditions have read the text, so you can prepare a lesson or go deeper in personal study.

Every Scripture quotation is checked against the bundled public-domain text (KJV, BSB and ASV), and references that cannot be verified are flagged. Lampfold is a study companion — AI can be wrong, so weigh every answer against the Bible itself.
