Learning to Pray
Prayer is simply talking with God, yet many of us feel unsure how to begin. In these seven days, learn from Jesus and the Scriptures how to pray honestly, persistently and with confidence in the Father's love.
The days
- Day 1: Pray in secretMatthew 6:5-8Jesus teaches that prayer is not a performance for others or a matter of many words, but honest conversation with a Father who sees in secret and already knows our needs.
- Day 2: Our FatherMatthew 6:9-13The Lord's Prayer gives a pattern: honouring God's name, seeking his kingdom and will, asking for daily needs, forgiveness, and protection from evil.
- Day 3: Ask, seek, knockMatthew 7:7-11Jesus encourages bold, ongoing asking because our heavenly Father is good and delights to give good gifts to his children, far more than earthly parents.
- Day 4: Keep on prayingLuke 18:1-8Through the parable of the persistent widow, Jesus teaches that we should always pray and not lose heart, because God is far more just and caring than the unjust judge.
- Day 5: The Spirit helps usRomans 8:26-28When we do not know what to pray, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us in our weakness, and God works in all things for the good of those who love him.
- Day 6: A clean heartPsalms 51:1-10David's prayer of confession shows how to come to God honestly about sin, appealing to his loving-kindness and asking for a clean heart and a renewed spirit.
- Day 7: Pray for one anotherJames 5:13-16James calls believers to pray in every circumstance — in trouble, in joy, in sickness — and to confess to and pray for one another, because the prayer of a righteous person is powerful.
