Fruit of the Spirit
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control are not a checklist to achieve but fruit the Spirit grows in us as we stay close to Christ. This week explores what that growth looks like day by day.
The days
- Day 1: Walk by the SpiritGalatians 5:16-26Paul contrasts the works of the flesh with the fruit of the Spirit, and calls believers to keep in step with the Spirit rather than rely on their own effort.
- Day 2: Abide in the vineJohn 15:1-8Fruit comes from staying connected to Jesus the true vine; apart from him we can do nothing, and the Father lovingly prunes so we bear more fruit.
- Day 3: Love is patient and kind1 Corinthians 13:4-8Love is described by what it does and does not do — patient, kind, not proud or self-seeking, keeping no record of wrongs — and it never fails.
- Day 4: Joy when the fig tree failsHabakkuk 3:17-19The prophet chooses to rejoice in God even when the harvest fails; joy rests in the Lord himself, who gives strength like a deer on the heights.
- Day 5: Let peace ruleColossians 3:12-15As God's chosen and beloved people, believers 'put on' compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and longsuffering, forgive one another, and let the peace of God rule their hearts.
- Day 6: Kindness and goodnessLuke 6:31-36Jesus calls his followers to treat others as they would want to be treated and to do good even to the ungrateful, reflecting the Father's own kindness and mercy.
- Day 7: Growing fruit that lasts2 Peter 1:5-8Peter urges believers to add virtue, knowledge, self-control (temperance), patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and love to their faith, so their lives will be fruitful.
